Viburnum rufidulum (Rusty Blackhaw) 10-20 ft. in landscape; will grow taller as an understory plant; leaves turn a rich burgundy in the fall; rusty colored hairs that cover the buds add particular interest. (Zone 5-9)
SIZE: 3gallon as pictured
Arrived in good condition with leaves that have stayed for several weeks now, although still much smaller than expected. I mail ordered little shrubs from 7 businesses this year and this order was one of the top two for packing. The V. Rufidulum came in an especially long, narrow pot: needs a deep hole, but seems to be effective.
I'm on a mission to have as many types of viburnum as I can find that will grow in my zone and in my particularly crappy soil. I came across the rusty Blackhawk viburnum while reviewing some literature on pollinators. I have plenty of area for understory shrubs so I looked for where I could buy one. I was excited to see that Mail Order Natives had some as I have had good success with the many plants that I have purchased there. I will often order only one of something just to see if it will survive, but the three gallon plant that I received looked so good, I'll probably go ahead and order a couple more. Ken Burk
I was glad that Mail Order Natives had the plants I wanted, but the description of the item and what I got were not what I expected. When the description said "3 gallon", I was expecting that the plants would be shipped in a 3-gallon size container full of dirt. What I got were plants that had essentially been uprooted from the pots, with the root ball placed in a plastic bag. I was disappointed that this was not more fully explained in the description.
Looks very nice with red branches and green leaves
