Mail Order Natives is the best source for southern red cedars!

Posted by Aaron Dalton on Apr 11th 2018

A few years back, I ordered a southern red cedar from Mail Order Natives. I was immediately impressed with that plant's robust nature when I pulled it from the shipment box. Today, that little plant is about six feet tall, dense and gorgeous. I've just ordered two more southern red cedars, which arrived quickly and look equally good - if not better! - than the original plant. I'm hoping these little guys will grow strongly over the next couple of years to give me good privacy and give the birds a comfortable place to nest and hide during the colder months. Many thanks to Mail Order Natives for offering such wonderful plants at affordable prices with fast shipping and great customer service!

    Southern Red Cedar

Beautiful trees. Arrived in great shape and look so healthy. I prefer to purchase small plants that have not sat and grown in a nursery pot. They are easy to plant and I imagine they will grow wonderfully. I ordered other trees and grasses from Mail Order Natives, and have been happy will all purchases.

The PERFECT alternative to Leyland Cypress

Posted by Stephanie on Feb 12th 2015

This year I embarked on the project of adding native trees for wildlife to my suburban yard. It seems like everybody in my neighborhood has at least one (and sadly, usually more than one) cookie-cutter Leyland Cypress, but nobody seems to know that that tree is almost useless to birds and native insects. Well, if the local chain nurseries stocked Eastern Red Cedars that looked as beautiful as the two Cedars I ordered from Mail Order Natives, the local avian population would be a lot happier I'm sure! Ordering plants online has been a learning experience for me, and sadly, I only found Mail Order Native after ordering from a horrible nursery in TN that just dug some poor little cedar trees from the woods somewhere and sent them to me. I learned the hard way to look for seed and/or nursery grown trees, and that's what I found here. These trees had just wonderful, elaborate root systems when I put them into the ground, many, many, many roots in their pots, these are not bare root trees. They have lush green needles near the bottom, and some vibrant purple tinges near the top currently, as it's winter (my mom comments on how pretty they are whenever she visits, as we didn't know cedars could color that way). This is not the ratty, struggling cedar sapling you might find out in the woods under deep shade somewhere; this is what an Eastern Red Cedar really can be with a good start in life, lots of sun and care and planting. I am super excited to have such healthy, beautiful little saplings in my yard now, and as with several of the other trees I ordered from here, I was pleasantly surprised with how much larger they were than what I'd expected. They also came to me within 2 days of placing my order, even though I don't live in Florida, so I was very glad I'd pre-dug my holes. Couldn't ask for a better online plant ordering experience.
