    Plants

These plants were nice and big and came in good shape. This is my first time trying these plants in my butterfly gardens. I am excited to see how they do here in Pensacola, Florida.

    Silene Regia - Royal Catchfly

When researching these, it said "plant in crappy dirt" so I put them in along the foundation of my house where it was a lot of rock and clay. Wow. They got 5 feet tall and talk about a hummingbird magnet! They are coming back gangbusters this spring - beautiful plants

    Silene regia

I can't find enough good things to say about Royal Catchfly and the health of the plants that were purchased. This was my first purchase of Silene regia from MON. If you have an open area, a prairie or just about any mixed native wildflower bed, these babies are worth trying. They can grow in well drained soils, rocky areas, as well as clay. They take draught and heat reasonably well. I only water during blooming period(s) if necessary to keep them in good shape. Hummingbirds have a hard time resisting this native prairie beauty. I've seen Silene regia bloom as early as June here in the piedmont of SC and as late as early November! Like I said, I can't find enough great things to say about this magnificently red beauty in the Pink family.

Nice, healthy plants received. Getting babied in this hot west Texas summer and hoping they do well.

    Silene regia

I had previously purchased this plant from local nurseries in smaller sizes. I was impressed by the availability of Silene regia in a gallon size, by mail order and at this low price. I was quite pleased with the condition, appearance and size of this plant upon arrival in Colorado. The plant was plump, full and with more leaves that I had ever purchased locally.

Bought in the heat of summer

Posted by Unknown on Aug 11th 2015

First off, the two silenes were ordered in the heat of summer. The company does not guarantee safe arrival this time of year which I understood, but this plant is so hard to come by that I took a chance while somebody had it to sell. I ordered two, and they were very well packaged but, on arrival, one seemed in very bad shape with most leaves already dead. The other had the stem broken off close to the rootball. One will, for sure, live, the other probably won't survive. This is August and Seattle is having a record setting heat wave. I knew what I was getting in to buying mail order plants this time of year. If one survives I'll be happy. I'd say this is a good mail order nursery with a diverse plant selection and I will be buying from them again come springtime.
