'Mount Airy' is thought to be a cross between Fothergilla gardenii and Fothergilla latifolia. It used to be known as Fothergilla major. This particular cultivar discovered by Michael Dirr was named after the Mount Airy Arboretum (Cincinnati, OH) where it was found.
It will get about 3-6 feet tall and wide. It has beautiful bright fall color that ranges from yellow/orange to reddish purple. Has bottle brush fragrant flowers and is deer resistant.
Does well in full sun to partial shade.
