Silphium astericus Starry Rosinweed

Silphium astericus (Starry Rosinweed) 3 ft. tall, great butterfly nectar plant. Specifically attracts swallowtail butterflies honeybees and many other pollinators.  Nice yellow flowers July through September. Basal leaves very rough to the touch. Full sun; well drained or sandy soils.

    I put in just one of these to see how it would do - it achieved 5-6 feet in height the second summer and is a butterfly magnet. It's already coming up this year and should be even more impressive.

    Arrived a little dry but with an excellent root system. Seems to be bouncing back well so far

    I just planted this in my backyard. I live in MD, so I hope it is of the variety asteriscus. It is for the non-existent butterflies that we have now. Everything here is mono-culture (grass) .
